Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The purpose of the TRiO Student Support Services Program (SSS) is to provide academic and other support services to low-income, first-generation or disabled college students to increase their retention and graduation rates and to facilitate their transfer from two-year to four-year colleges. This is accomplished through creating individual success plans for students in the cohort group as well as planning and developing successful academic support programs including workshops, campus transfer trips and volunteer opportunities. May also have responsibility for Student Leadership Organization. This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation of the position from one academic year to the next is dependent upon continued grant funding.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Advises students in assigned academic discipline(s); Acts as case manager and meets with students on a regular basis to track their academic progress and success
- Tracks, provides and publishes data on students with declared majors in assigned discipline/division on items including success, retention, and completion rates
- Creates individual success plans for students in cohort group
- Provides students with other college and community referrals on an as needed basis
- Assists in identifying, recruiting, interviewing and selecting students for the SSS program
- Provides student coaching to SSS program participants in the areas of academic, financial, career and transfer support
- Builds, develops and maintains student centered relationship through delivery of personalized coaching services
- Maintains and facilitates communication between TRiO and other campus departments as needed
- Conducts academic and personal development workshops, coordinates college visits trip and program events
- Monitors evaluates and tracks SSS student progress, maintains student files and updates all required databases
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

- Has basic knowledge of general office and software applications

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
- Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
- Experience advising individuals with disadvantages or disabilities
- Experience with case management
Salary
Hiring salary range is $ $44,793 – $51,512
Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
