Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Admissions Counselor will play a key role in supporting the university’s enrollment management efforts by overseeing specific populations and initiatives, including veterans, non-degree seeking students, junior students, and international students. This position is crucial to enhancing Fairmont State University’s recruitment strategies and ensuring that prospective students have a positive and informed experience as they navigate the admissions process. The role will include virtual and online recruitment efforts for international students, without requiring international travel.

Key Responsibilities:

Veterans and Non-Degree Seeking Students:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for veterans and non-degree seeking students, providing guidance on the admissions process, academic programs, and support services available to them.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to ensure that veterans and non-degree students receive the resources and support needed to succeed at Fairmont State University.

Junior Students:

  • Focus on recruiting and engaging junior students, providing them with information on early admission opportunities, dual enrollment programs, and preparatory resources.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high school counselors and teachers to promote Fairmont State’s programs to junior students.

International Student Recruitment:

  • Lead recruitment efforts targeting international students through virtual platforms, online engagement, and partnerships with international schools and organizations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for international student inquiries, guiding them through the admissions process, visa requirements, and transitioning to Fairmont State University.
  • Collaborate with the International Office to ensure that international students receive the necessary support and resources for successful enrollment and integration into the university community.

Campus Visit Coordination:

  • Act as the backup to the Campus Visit Coordinator, assisting with the planning and execution of campus tours, open houses, and other recruitment events.
  • Ensure that all visitors have a positive and informative experience during their campus visit.

Saturday Visits:

  • Serve as the designated Admissions Counselor for once-a-month Saturday visits, coordinating with the Campus Visit Coordinator to ensure that these events run smoothly and effectively.

General Admissions Responsibilities:

  • Assist prospective students and their families throughout the admissions process, including application submission, financial aid inquiries, and enrollment procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of university programs, admissions requirements, and financial aid options.
  • Participate in recruitment events, both on and off campus, to represent Fairmont State University and attract a diverse pool of applicants.
  • Track and report on the progress of recruitment efforts for the assigned populations, using SLATE and other data management systems.
  • Provide regular updates to the Director of Admissions on recruitment activities and outcomes.

Travel Requirements: 25% or less. Travel is required for this role and will vary according to operational needs.

Minimum Required Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in college admissions or a related field is preferred
  • Experience working with veterans, non-traditional students, or international student populations
  • Familiarity with CRM tools and data management systems.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Commitment to student success and service
