DESCRIPTION

The part-time instructor will provide instructional activities which are consistent with the objectives of the Aspire Program and Clark State College. This includes teaching up to two High School Equivalency (HSE)/Adult Secondary Education (ASE) classes, Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 am-12:00 pm or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-12:00 pm. These classes will follow a hybrid format, so they will be taught face to face (F2F) while also streamed synchronously, and will be recorded to be accessible asynchronously in the course Learning Management System (LMS). The part-time instructor will provide detailed and documented lesson plans for review on a bi-weekly basis in accordance with the State of Ohio’s educational standards. The instructor will also meet (in person or virtually) with the Aspire team on a bi-weekly basis to review, discuss, and identify any potential issues as well provide/receive feedback that will help strengthen the Aspire program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Provide classroom and individualized instruction in short- and long-term goal setting for students to complete the Aspire program and plan for future education, training and/or job seeking. Prepare students for further education or employment.
  2. Create a culture of care within the classroom that respects that all people come to class with different abilities and life experiences. We want to cultivate an environment that supports and empowers students.
  3. Provide detailed and documented state-required lesson plans for bi-weekly review; participate in bi-weekly staff meetings (in person or virtually).
  4. Prepare supplementary materials for and provide classroom instruction in Adult Secondary Education (ASE)/High School Equivalency (HSE) Skills (math, science, English language arts, and social studies), based on individual standardized assessment results.
  5. Maintain daily attendance records and follow up with students who miss class or stop attending.
  6. Incorporate the use of technology into classroom instruction for hybrid access (F2F and Distance Education).
  7. Guide students in creating and maintaining student portfolios. Collect and secure them on a daily basis.
  8. Administer and score assessments: A) Formative assessments at regular intervals to monitor and provide feedback on student progress, and B) Summative assessments, or the TABE and/or practice high school equivalency assessments in compliance with state regulations.
  9. Review, respond to, and carry out instructions sent in email communication; ask clarifying questions as needed.
  10. As required by the State Aspire Program, all instructors must complete professional development in varying time increments.
  11. Work collaboratively to develop and strengthen student recruitment, referral, and transition processes for post-secondary and employment opportunities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Education or Adult Education; however, degrees in other fields will be considered with relevant experience.
  • Adult education teaching experience preferred; training is provided.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, faculty, and students.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is performed in an office-like environment with a minimal amount of noise.
