Position Description
The Director of Recruitment for the Templeton Honors College will oversee the undergraduate admissions efforts of the Templeton Honors College at Eastern University. The Director will be an active member of the Templeton community, attend regularly scheduled Templeton events, and work with a faculty member to organize and execute Templeton’s high school Summer Scholars Program. The Director will attend staff meetings in both the Templeton Honors College and the Department of Undergraduate Admissions.
These efforts will target an undergraduate cohort of 60 undergraduate students each year through an effective communication strategy that includes social media marketing, print marketing, high school visits, phone calls, email campaigns, text messages, and etc., to build relationships with students, teachers, and influential persons in high schools and other relevant institutions. This will require regular travel, as well as some evening, weekend, and (Summer) overnight responsibilities.
Templeton’s Director of Recruitment reports to the Dean of the Templeton Honors College and works closely with the Director of Undergraduate Admissions for Eastern University. Templeton’s Director of Recruitment will work alongside other Honors College staff members and participate in Templeton events including, but not limited to the following: weekly Honors Forum, Templeton Speakers Series, Matriculation, Lessons & Carols, the freshman mountain retreat, and various banquets. The Director will also work with staff members of the Admissions Department and the Director of Undergraduate Admissions in order to keep up to date on competitive recruiting practices and develop and execute recruitment strategies.
The primary office of the Director of Recruitment for the Templeton Honors College will be in Templeton Hall (when completed), where they will meet with prospective students, but they will also spend regular time working with and alongside the Eastern University undergraduate admissions team in Centennial Hall.
Status: Staff, full-time, 40 hours per week.
Position Responsibilities
Recruitment
- Develop an annual communication, marketing, and recruitment strategy for high school and undergraduate Templeton admissions as guided by the Director of Eastern University Admissions.
- Work closely with Eastern University’s admissions team to identify strong Templeton leads in Eastern’s applicant pool.
- Utilize customer relationship management (CRM) software such as Salesforce to find leads and develop communication and recruitment campaigns for both undergrad and graduate Templeton admissions. This requires coordinating with Eastern’s CRM and Marketing teams.
- Build ongoing connections with high school college counselors and faculty to promote the Templeton Honors College. This will involve travel as well as email and phone communication.
- Meet with students and parents on campus and while traveling to high schools, college fairs, etc. to promote the Templeton Honors College.
- Occasionally work in the evenings to reach students, particularly during the fall recruitment cycle.
- Work closely with prospective students and their families throughout the admissions process, including financial aid needs and awards. This involved working with Eastern University’s Admissions and Financial Aid Departments and articulating Eastern’s vision.
- Coordinate with Templeton’s Dean and Director of Academic Affairs to determine qualifying applicants for the interview stage, and schedule interviews for prospective students.
- Coordinate and communicate acceptance letters, rejections letters, and financial aid.
- With the help of Templeton’s Program Coordinator, coordinate on-campus recruitment events for the Templeton Honors College.
- Establish contact between members of the incoming cohort and the Director of Academic Affairs for first semester class registration.
- Oversee student workers hired to assist with recruitment and marketing efforts.
- With the help of Templeton’s Program Coordinator, maintain Templeton’s website as an important recruitment tool.
Academic Planning
- Assist the Templeton faculty member responsible for the Summer Scholars Program, and be present throughout the program in order to utilize the program as a recruitment opportunity.
Qualifications
General Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree required.
- Experience in college / university recruitment desired but not essential, with preferred additional experience in marketing and / or sales.
- Enthusiastic supporter of classical liberal arts education, great books, and holistic student formation.
- Have a demonstrated capability for articulating the vision of a liberal arts education as described on the website of the Templeton Honors College.
- Ambition to maximize Templeton recruitment within predetermined applicant requirements.
- Impeccable verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, but also coordinate with a team.
- Ability to work with and lead student workers.
- Emotionally intelligent with outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Embodies values of charity, integrity, and service.
- Ability to manage a budget and handle confidential information.
- Moderate computer literacy.
- Web development and / or graphic design experience preferred.

1) Affidavit;
2) FBI Criminal Record Check;
3) Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance and;
4) Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check.
In accordance with state laws, Act 73 of 2007, Act 153 of 2014, Act 168 (relating to the Child Protective Services Law), school employees of Eastern University who will have “direct contact with children” must complete the background check process prior to employment. Results must be submitted within ten days of receipt.
