Job Summary:The International Admission Counselor is a representative of TCU responsible for administering all aspects of the college search, recruiting and admissions process with prospective international students. Responsibilities include direct contact with prospective students, parents, and high school counselors to communicate TCU’s academic and co-curricular programs, encouraging applications, making admission decisions, planning and executing international recruitment strategies, and recommending admissions, scholarships, and financial aid actions for first-year, transfer, and non-degree international students. The counselor will utilize data research and the Slate admission system to monitor trends and create process efficiencies. Extensive travel is required.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:1. Promotes the TCU educational experience internationally by developing recruiting strategies; designing and implementing on-campus and off-campus programs tailored to international students; creating and editing informational and promotional publications; coordinating, implementing, and/or staffing programs and events; representing TCU at international recruiting events; conducting special tours for international prospects.
2. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of immigration regulations, serves as a resource for international students with immigration questions related to higher education, and assists in processing I-20 documents for students.
3. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of TCU’s academic, spiritual, recreational, social, extra-curricular, and financial aid programs, with a specific focus on how these apply to international students, and accurately communicates this information to prospective students and their families.
4. Recruits international students by conducting informational and evaluative interviews; advising prospective students on educational and career decisions. Manages international public relations by answering/initiating calls to/from prospective students and families, maintaining rapport with students and families, high school administrators, counselors, teachers, and TCU alumni; communicating application status, facilitating student enrollment, and providing solutions to enrollment issues.
5. Evaluates international applicant transcripts and supporting documents; determining the prospective student’s educational needs and the appropriateness of a TCU education for international students.
6. Selects incoming first-year and transfer international students by evaluating applications for admission and scholarship consideration; making recommendations to the Admissions Committee on students to be admitted. Makes recommendations to the scholarship committee for first-year and transfer international students and special programs (e.g., Chancellor’s Scholars).
7. Serves as a liaison with one of TCU’s schools, colleges, or special programs as assigned by providing analytics, details, presentations, or information sessions for accurate representation of the admission process to prospective international students applying to, or parents contacting, those schools or programs.
8. Maintains up-to-date records and completes routine reports related to international inquiries, recruitment, projections, conversions, personal schedule, travel, special programs, and other data as requested.
9. Monitors expenses by gathering and reporting travel and admissions programming expenses; facilitating and monitoring invoices and purchase orders, scheduling and reconciling expenditures.
10. Serves as lead for high-volume, high-profile internal programmatic efforts related to recruiting prospective international students and finalizing decisions to enroll at TCU. Manages, plans, and coordinates special recruitment events as assigned, including having an active presence at 30-40 annual on- and off-campus preview days (e.g., Monday @ TCU, Experience TCU, Chancellor’s Scholars Weekends) and occasional weekends, including one Saturday or official TCU Holiday a semester.
11. Directs matriculating international first-year and transfer students to appropriate campus resources to create a seamless transition to TCU (e.g., housing, registrar, financial aid, first-year experience, etc.).
12. Transports promotional materials and marketing collateral to and from international event locations.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience interacting with diverse populations and demonstrating cultural sensitivity

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Experience in higher education admissions, international student recruitment, international student relations, campus tour guides, peer advising, or related field, including as an undergraduate.
  • Familiarity with analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Proficient using and troubleshooting a variety of technology, hardware, meeting software, and A/V equipment.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to obtain a passport for required travel.
  • Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.

Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:

  • Proficiency in Slate or other CRM.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom or other virtual meeting software.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of multi-cultural diversity on TCU campus.
  • Knowledge of academic and co-curricular college life and liberal arts and science university programs at a highly selective, competitive institution.
  • Knowledge of advising, counseling and interpersonal relationship techniques with late adolescents, young adults and parents.
  • Skill in strong, independent judgement, initiative and critical thinking.
  • Skill in presentation, with diverse audiences ranging in size from 10-100s.
  • Skill in financial literacy for managing programmatic and work-related expenses and reimbursements.
  • Skill in customer service and ability to interface with diverse populations during stressful situations
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity in various situations and environments
  • Ability to use discretion within current policies and procedures; ability to recommend process improvements.
  • Ability to accurately arrange travel using all modes of transportation.
  • Ability to stay abreast of advances and effective methods in higher education recruitment approaches, tools, and serves as champion for achieving best-in-class recruitment practices at TCU.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

  • Able to travel using all modes of transportation, in some cases within a short timeframe.
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 20 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily indoors but not sedentary, and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • Work involves high travel seasons including approximately 75% travel from August to December and 25% or more travel from February 1-May 1.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
