Learning from high-quality staff and lecturers You’ll work on real sites, on real scenarios, investigating real issues. You’ll work on client-driven briefs in landscape studios to develop your design creativity and hone your professional practice skills. Students have worked on a range of sites in Cheltenham such as Pittville Park, Gloucester such as Kings Square, and Bristol such as The Diesel Depot and Temple Meads. Our town and country planning & landscape courses are ranked 7th in the UK for graduate prospects, and in the top 20 for teaching quality and student experience by The Times Good University Guide 2023. With a number of industry partners linked to the course, You’ll benefit from sponsored events, visits to landscape practices and lectures delivered directly by current practitioners. Partners have included LDA Design, Arup, Grant Associates, Barton Wilmore, Atkins Global, Grontmij, BDP, Sustrans and Merrick Denton-Thompson, current president of the Landscape Institute. You’ll develop design creativity through national and international study trips where You’ll explore examples of historic, contemporary and cultural landscapes. Previous trips include Copenhagen, New York and Barcelona. The study programme is based around lectures, tutorials and student-led research in a studio-based environment. You’ll develop skills in experimentation, creative thinking and social interaction. The course also offers a balanced mix of theory, design work and introduction to professional practice. With opportunities and scope for you to thrive within a stimulating learning environment and to develop and think about your personal development within the context of future career options. In your final year, You’ll showcase your work at the Degree Show – an event attended by landscape practitioners where previous students have been head-hunted by leading landscape design practices.
