Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Manager, Finance – Office of Fiscal Affairs at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
Assists with daily oversight of administrative activities relative to User Profile Security Access, Human Resource Processes, Position budget management, Travel, University Procurement and Procard systems, while managing other related responsibilities within the School of Medicine. Will also work the departments within the School of Medicine, including the Dean’s Office to achieve financial objectives and support the mission and goals of the School of Medicine and University. Reports to the Senior Director of Fiscal Affairs.
Manages, authorizes and oversees all personnel related processes and transactions to ensure adherence to budget guidelines; which includes all processes related to PARS, EDSW’s and Smart Path. Also serves as School of Medicine Final Level School-Wide “Approver” for: Procurement, Timesheet Queues, Travel Wayne, ProCard and SAMS (Scholarships).
Uses systems to analyze, interpret reports and provide financial reporting information for area(s) of responsibility to assist management in their planning and decision making. Also develops detailed statistical analyses and reports outlining fiscal activities and maintains School of Medicine Dean’s commitment database.
Supervision and oversight of direct reports, inclusive of recruitment, training, performance management and establishment of processes to ensure compliance with University policy and procedures.
Oversees position control to ensure budgetary compliance with all units within the School of Medicine.
Manages the security access for all School of Medicine employees and non-employees requiring use of University systems and also manages school-wide signatory authority process.
Ensures School of Medicine compliance with all University guidelines, policies and procedures in conducting financial transactions; and those of sponsoring agencies.
Assists in implementation and monitoring of WSU, Wayne Health and various other affiliate
budgeting processes, while using available tools to create other methods as necessary to reconcile accounts and perform budgetary projections and analysis as needed.
Participates in special projects as requested, which may impact the University at large and provides leadership and training to department administrators and managers.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business from an accredited college. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience: Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience)
Three to four years’ experience in financial administration. Knowledge of accounting, finance and budget administration. Supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Oral and Written Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with others. Ability to present technical information and data so others understand.
This should be preferred – Organizational Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of and experience with University practices, programs and computing systems (Wayne Buy, Banner, Cognos, etc.). Also demonstrated a high level of understanding of S/C/D business operations.
Business Acumen: Possesses keen business judgement and insight.
Problem Solving and Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to apply analyze data and query information. Makes valid and reliable evaluation of information, in order to provide insight for timely solutions.
Supervisory Experience: Ability to coach, mentor, motivate and inspire others. Ability to effectively delegate work.
Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred qualifications:
Idea candidate has experience working in a large, complex organization; the ability to work in ambiguous situations and is adept at working with multiple stakeholders to achieve objectives.
Idea candidate also has the proven ability to identify operational opportunities and create highly efficient processes to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
Strong accounting/finance background preferred.
Knowledge of lean principles and automation software.
