Number of Awards & Eligibility: 15 awards offered annually. The number of awards varies each year depending on the amount of available funding.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a United States citizen or eligible for permanent employment in the United States.
  3. Must have earned 120 or more credit hours by May 2018 and anticipate completing Michigan CPA education requirements by May 2019.
  4. Must have a declared concentration in accounting.
  5. Must intend to be a CPA in Michigan and intend to take or have passed the Michigan CPA exam.
  6. Must be a full-time student or have a combination of education (defined as a minimum of 12 credit hours per year) and employment.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. students who have a declared concentration in accounting and intend to be a CPA in Michigan. Students must have earned at least 120 credit hours by May of the application year and anticipate completion of Michigan CPA requirements in May of the year following application.Application requirements for the Michigan Accountancy Foundation Fifth/Graduate Year Scholarship Program are:

Additional Information: The application evaluation will begin in early February. The Scholarship Review Board (SRB) will review each complete application submission for compliance with the stated criteria, which will be considered objectively and subjectively, with the intention to fund the best-qualified applicants.
The following criteria will be considered in the evaluation process: single-parent status, physically challenged, self-supporting student status, financial need, and minority status. In some instances, because of donor restrictions, consideration will be given to the school attended by the recipient.
A recommendation from the SRB will be made to the Trustees of the Michigan Accountancy Foundation (MAF). Once the Trustees have approved an applicant for funding, a letter will be sent to that applicant indicating the judgment of the Trustees and the next steps in securing funding. Recipients will be notified by March for funding beginning in May. Applicants who were not selected may reapply for the next evaluation cycle, if applicable.
Decisions made by MAF Board of Trustees are final.

 

Award Amount: Up to $3,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarships may be used for tuition and fees, with continuous enrollment. Funding will be disbursed directly to the applicant’s college or university.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Scholarship information is available on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) website by selecting “Michigan” on the drop-down menu and then clicking the link for the scholarship program. In addition to a completed online application, the student must submit the following documents: two letters of recommendation, including one from a faculty member; and official transcript(s) with university/college seal for all college level coursework, including all courses completed in the term prior to the application deadline. Course grades for fall term just prior to deadline may be submitted separately. Applications must be completed online by 11:59 p.m. EST on the deadline date. Transcripts and recommendation letters must be mailed to the address provided.
