Job Description
This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing admissions and recruitment activities for the School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences (SESWPS) to meet enrollment goals and objectives and develop programs and initiatives to support the recruitment of first-time undergraduate students to SESWPS. The primary functions of this position include recruitment, admissions, and enrollment activities.
Characteristic duties include:
- Maintaining a strong knowledge of SESWPS programs, policies, awards, values, and distinctions;
- Developing and implementing recruitment strategies, plans, and goals based on SESWPS and university data, trends, best practices, and market research;
- Implementing recruitment initiatives, including but not limited to, high school visits, college fairs, community events, communication plans, and other initiatives focused on recruiting students from diverse populations;
- Responding promptly and thoroughly to prospective student inquiries through email, phone, and in-person communications;
- Initiating and maintaining positive relationships with prospective students, families, school/college counselors/advisors, and other school, agency, and community organizations;
- Counseling and communicating information about UMKC’s requirements for admission, including requirements for specific academic programs within SESWPS. Communicate with applicants regarding application materials, admissions decisions, and yielding to UMKC and SESWPS;
- Working with members of SESWPS and the UMKC Marketing and Communications team to develop publications, communication campaigns, mailings, etc.;
- Collaborate with the Office of Admissions on prospective student visits and events on- and off-campus along with coordinating events with high schools, college fairs, and similar recruitment events. The position serves as liaison for the School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences on recruitment initiatives, meeting planning, and training planning with the campus.
- Demonstrating excellent written and verbal/presentation skills, and present information at both on-campus and off-campus events;
- Accurately communicating financial aid and scholarship information, deadlines, and processes;
- Maintaining accurate reports related to school visits and other recruitment events, inquiry, applicant, and enrolled data, and communication efforts;
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal constituents, and interface with various campus officials concerning student admissions and recruitment;
- Functioning with a high level of autonomy, including setting accountability goals while keeping appropriate stakeholders informed of progress to goals; and
- Other duties as assigned.
For this position, travel is required. Personal vehicle and driver’s license are required for travel. Evening and weekend work required.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary;
- Six months to one year of experience in Admissions or Higher Education is preferred;
- Dedication to engaging with and supporting a diverse student population;
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills;
- Demonstrated ability to ability to receive, process, and apply feedback;
- Competency to be trained and advocate for oneself for additional support when/if needed:
- Experience with student recruitment and admissions practices, organizing events and programs, managing and interpreting data, strategic planning and data-informed decision making,
- Experience with and ability to work independently and be self-motivated;
- Valid driver’s license required; and
- Must be available to work some evenings and weekends as required.
Anticipated Hiring Range
$20.00 – $21.85 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
