Columbia GSAPP offers institutional financial aid to highly qualified graduate students from diverse backgrounds and nationalities. These scholarships are awarded at the time of admission and are highly competitive, based on recommendations from the program’s admissions committee. The scholarships aim to reduce financial barriers, promote equity and accessibility to education, and attract exceptional students who can contribute to the GSAPP community.
GSAPP actively promotes the recruitment of historically underrepresented groups and has established various scholarship funds for this purpose. Notable examples include the George and Nancy Rupp Fellowship, established in 2018 to honor the former President of the University, and the Milton and Yvonne Edelin Scholarship, the largest gift from a Black alumnus in the school’s history, established in 2019. In 2020, the School committed $1 million to create the Norma Merrick Sklarek Scholars Fund, which supports a cohort of full-tuition financial aid recipients over the next three academic years. More information is available here.
Starting in Fall 2022, GSAPP is launching a new need-based scholarship funded by the Dean’s Office. This scholarship aims to support currently enrolled students facing financial hardship during their studies. The program plans to award up to 30 scholarships, each worth $5,000, for the 2022-2023 academic year. Due to limited funding, priority will be given to students with the greatest financial need, based on the information provided in the application. Learn more here.
